A Fascinating Trip to Ushuaia
At the beginning of April, Franz and I had the opportunity of travelling to Ushuaia. Find all the details and most exciting moments of our trip in this post!
We stayed at the beautiful Los Cauquenes Resort & Spa, located on the banks of the Beagle Channel and with a back landscape of the Andes Mountain Range. This 5-star hotel is only 4km away from the city, but enough to distance from the crowds and connect with nature. Needless to say, the attention was excellent and we were more than comfortable!
To start our adventure, we were received with hot chocolate at the hotel, and after that, we took the navigation through the Beagle Channel to watch the sealions, the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, cormorants, etc. Other passengers even spotted whales! Excellent climate accompanied us all along the way.
On the second day, we did the 4x4 adventure, passing through amazing natural landscapes that are only accessible by these vans. During the way, we stopped at a distillery & restaurant where Gin is elaborated. The guide told us that this is a must stop for the motorcycle drivers that travel all the way from Canada to Ushuaia. To finish the adventure, we stopped at a lake and navigated with canoes.
Day 3 was a totally different experience, which we only recommend to do if you will spend more than just a couple of days in Ushuaia: we went to Cabo San Pablo, a location on the other side of the island. The trip was long but it counted with 3 special stops. The first one was an estancia hosted by a wonderful couple and where we spotted many guanacos. The second one was a Lighthouse surrounded by incredible landscapes and where we visited a nearby aground ship. Last stop was for lunch, served in a fishers’ house, accompanied by excellent wine.
Continuing with the fishing theme, on the fourth day we took a navigation to catch centollas (also called Patagonic King Crabs). This is also an experience that takes the whole day, as it is also combined with a picturesque trekking to a waterfall. For lunch, we obviously had the centollas we caught, prepared by a chef!
On day 5 we took the trekking that leads to the Esmeralda Lagoon, one of the most fantastic landscapes in Ushuaia. It is much necessary to take comfortable clothes and suitable shoes, as the trekking is long and you pass by peats, where your shoes can get stuck in the mud. Anyway, the experience is worth the effort!
Last day we went to the Tierra del Fuego National Park, a place that never stops to amaze us as new hidden spots can be discovered in different trekking paths. This excursion, along with the Beagle Channel and the 4x4 adventure are the unmissable ones if you only have a couple of days to spend at this fantastic destination.
